Hey guys,
I'm Pat. I heard about this from the yahoo owners group.
quick intro I'm currently near the end of my college career. I'll be getting a BS in electromechanical engineering. The ascot is my first bike, its an 84 (I'm always proud to say that the bike is older than I am) and its got about 27k miles on it. I've put about 11k of those miles on it myself in the last 3 seasons.
I chose to get an older bike mostly because I love the way it looks but also because I wanted to learn how to maintain a motorcycle by NEEDING to maintain a motorcycle. So far I've had to replace:
-ignition coils
-spark plugs
-mirrors
-speedo cable
-blinkers (front and back)
-seat (foam and cover only, pan is in great shape)
I've made a few modifications. I've installed new mirrors (round, i know, blasphemy, but I'm on a budget) and I've installed amber strip LED blinkers on the mirror stems. I think this looks really nice. I've also got LED blinkers on the back end. I also refoamed my seat and recovered it myself using carpet pad (basically rebond foam) and some high density 1/2" foam from the fabric store, and covered it with some black marine vinyl.
I've really enjoyed owning this bike. I've ridden quite a few different bikes. I haven't really ridden any sport bikes but I've ridden victory and harley. Love Victory, Hated the harley. It was a sportster 883 low. Basically it felt like I was riding a paint shaker. The victory on the other hand was fantastic. very nimble for being such a large bike. but I digress....
So basically, Hello all! this seems like it could be a good thing if its maintained well. The more ascot owner groups the better!
